2 years a a row, actual refund was $1500 less than what CA CPA said. When I asked why that might be, they said it not their job to figure out unless I hire them on an hourly rate.

On Monday, March 4 around 5PM I walked into this office inquiring about their accounting services for my new business. The receptionist asked me what type of business it was, then said the accountant was “TOO BUSY” and was very booked. I asked her if she could schedule me for his next available appointment. She then went ahead and looked at her computer and said I’m sorry he’s just very booked. Then she said that she would take my name and number and the accountant would call me whenever he had a chance. I felt as I was being discriminated for being a Hispanic business owner or because I was inquiring for my cleaning business. Very unprofessional of the receptionist to not even offer me an appt for their next opening. Would not recommend as I get I was being judge and discriminated.

My husband and I were looking for a CPA in AZ, we recently relocated and have some business here now. I have to say that trying to get a new CPA is so difficult, most firms didn't answer me, or said to us that they couldn't take any new clients. I called every single CPA in AZ that appeared in Google search. It's how I found CS CPA and Chris, which offered me a free initial consultation early this year, that was important to me because I wanted to see if that firm would it be a good match for us, as a small business owners we value our professional partnerships that helps our business grow. I’ve dealt with Chris Scoggin for approx 3 years now. Had him help me file taxes for myself and my business. Also sought his advice on old tax debt from a previous CPA that left me high and dry. At first it was laughs, smiles and Chris calmed me down about the worries and concerns I had about my old tax debt. And he advised me to not pay my current taxes. We would get the IRS attention this way as during Covid he said the IRS is so backed up they don’t return phone calls. And we will roll my current tax debt into my old one we were getting a payment plan for. Mind you I had asked if I should just pay it off in chunks. Cause it’s a very serious ordeal. Well I bought his words. Thousands of dollars later and three years later I have the IRS knocking on my door!!!!! Like legit at my house!!!! I would strongly suggest finding someone else to do your taxes. Not only will you get the run around you’ll also be getting someone who doesn’t remember you, what you talked about, tries to sell you on different programs they offer and the blame game if you chose to work with him. I hope this is a coachable moment for Chris and he can learn from his mistakes. And do better for his other clients. He left me in a bad way and takes no responsibility even with text and email threads of our conversations. Watch out!

Just read the response Chris left. I have it documented on email threads and text messages where I let Chris know I will not be using his services anymore. The review I left was for the terrible. Customer service I received. You should be utterly ashamed of yourself. You are being reported!

Had an initial conversation around tax strategy in Feb of this year in the CS CPA office. Was told I would receive a follow-up within a few days around a strategy and never heard from the team again. Lost a customer, would have hired your team on for all future tax related activities including strategies. Dont go here if you value responsiveness from a CPA.

Imagine that, a company that does taxes wouldnt want to provide that service for someone looking for tax help. Additionally, I was never told that you found zero strategies that would work for my case. Instead, I was told by one of your associates (Chris) that he would provide a writeup for out meeting in a couple days and then go over his findings. (That was back in Feb) However, what I got instead was zero communication from your team, even after several emails, not a single email response.

After a frustrating last two years using this CPA office, this year finally cinched our decision not to use them again. There were some issues filing our taxes electronically so we were told to expect a hard copy in the mail that we needed to sign and send to the IRS. First, it took more than a week for the paperwork to travel from one Arizona city to another. That was especially frustrating because we are already late getting everything completed. Unfortunately, that is so minor compared to the next step in this saga. We finally received an envelope this weekend from Chaston only to open it and find somebody else's tax return in it. We were sent this person's private, unsecure information. So we drove the 60 miles to the office to get ours and return the other. And, apparently, this man had been contacted because he received our tax information. That's fairly horrifying, right? We were given a new printout of our information, paid for postage, and an apology. I find this completely insufficient. There is no guarantee that our information will be treated discreetly or respectfully, and this "service" cost us a mere $270. Mistakes are made daily. I understand that. Double checking address labels before sending something as sensitive as tax information seems like a very reasonably avoidable mistake. We will never again trust this office with our information. I strongly recommend that nobody else does either.

Jim is a true professional and extremely proficient in all aspects of his specialty. I have been seeking financial advice and various tax services from Jim and his friendly staff close to ten years now, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the quality of service they provide. If you want a CPA that is truly "not your ordinary CPA" this is the guy for you. As a financial adviser i vetted my way through multiple CPA's before finding a home with Jim Chaston. I needed someone knowledgeable and also someone that goes above and beyond for his clients. Jim has always been responsive with communication and always knows the answers on the spot. The previous CPA's that i vetted would always just tell me to "check the IRS website" to find the answers to my questions because they weren't always 100% sure. This does not work for me because if i refer my own clients to him and the client calls him with a question, I don't want the CPA's answer to be "check the IRS website". This is why we hire professionals because they are suppose to know these answers to our questions and Jim always does. You want your CPA to treat you right and know their stuff then Jim Chaston is who you want and he is the only person i recommend and refer people to.
