Recently attempted to become a member, completed application online. 4 days later I received an email stating " We have reviewed your application for an account at WinSouth Credit Union. Unfortunately, your credit score falls beneath the threshold for our free checking accounts. " I have a 828 credit score. They are definitely using a non-traditional scoring method that will exclude 99.5% of the US population from the free checking accounts.

I almost never leave negative reviews but this one is for the books... and btw I had no clue WinSouth had such bad reviews...

I purchased my wife a new vehicle and financed with WinSouth for the second time because I thought they were a local community credit union with decent customer service.

So they mailed out a booklet and I made the first payment and my accounting staff forgot to setup the payments on automatic. So after being 30 days late my staff received a letter from WinSouth threatening to report to the credit bureaus. So as soon as staff alerted me of the letter we promptly made the payments and brought my account back up to date.

After being alerted quite quickly from Experian and my other local bank that my credit had taken a 100 point dive, I called the bank to find out why I never received a phone call and so I asked to speak to the collections department and then later the manager and was told the same unfortunate message.

That all of their collection notices and credit reporting is automatic and accomplished by a computer and that they do not have the TIME to call customers. (for whatever reason is unacceptable)

IS THIS WELLS FARGO? I was thinking that WinSouth is a local lending institution and not some corporate conglomerate that does not have time to call customers when there is an apparent issue.

SO... now the waiting game, 7 years or so before this leaves my credit record and nothing WinSouth offers do about it. Not even an apology nor any offerings of fixing anything about their broken system.

Only... we are short staffed and occasionally we have sick staff and only 2 staff... and the list of excuses go on...

Avoid WinSouth

I am writing this review on the behalf of my Father

I am writing this review to express my utter disappointment and frustration with Win South Credit Union and their Branch Manager, Josh Cofield. Our experience with them following the passing of my father, has been nothing short of a nightmare.

As joint owners of my father's bank account, my brother and I have been denied access to our own funds despite providing all the necessary documentation, including my father's death certificate and my mother's certificate. It is our legal right as joint owners to access the account, yet Win South Credit Union has disregarded this and left us in a state of financial limbo. This lack of empathy and understanding during a time of mourning is utterly disgraceful.

Furthermore, Win South Credit Union has also refused to grant us access to the safe deposit box, for which we have been dutifully paying. We complied with their requirements by presenting the necessary documents, including the safe deposit box key. However, their refusal to allow us entry is not only unjust but also a breach of our agreement with the credit union. It is shocking that they would deny access to our own belongings.

Finally, after six weeks of legal battles, we were able to access the safe deposit box. However, the experience was nothing short of traumatic. The employees at the bank were extremely rude and unprofessional, the all was whispering about is and we asked them what they were whispering about and they got really quite, and the woman in charge of the safe deposit box was even worse. She refused to speak to us and ran out of the room when we opened the box.

To make matters worse, the box was empty, except for money clips. It was clear that someone had emptied the box in a hurry, and we strongly suspect that it was the employees of the bank. Their behavior was suspicious and unprofessional, and they even had the audacity to tell us that we couldn't prove anything because there were no cameras where the Safety Deposit Box is.

In conclusion, I would strongly advise potential customers to avoid Win South Credit Union at all costs. Their disregard for their customers' legal rights and their unprofessional behavior is unacceptable. Branch Manager Josh Cofield and his team have demonstrated a complete lack of empathy and professionalism during our time of need, and we will never forget the trauma they caused us.

Best Auto loan rate around however it seems the balance never lowers. At this rate I will never pay that vehicle off. May cost more in long run I definitely be looking for another finance company so I can see the balance drop.

I have been with WinSouth Credit union for 30 years and they have always had the best car loan rates. Also I had to get a new debit card last week and it was printed quickly. I have always had great customer service with each of their branches.

Literally the worst place to get a loan through. I’ve paid my truck payment every month for over two years now. If you are even one day late you start getting emailed and phone called. It’s beyond obnoxious and I will not allow them to do any future loans for me even if they are the only company that will. As many here have pointed out... making the customer happy is not their strength apparently.

Rude, Rude, and unhelpful. My Daddy passed and my mother was the account beneficiary. I called the make sure he still had an account here. The lady who answered ask for a social (last digit was wring turns out). She refused to look him up by name or my mother’s name. I called back, spoke to another lady who was understanding because he Dad had passed too. She found the error and my Daddy’s account. When I went to withdraw the money from the Albertville location, both the tellers were fussing over should we get the money because he was deceased. My mom was with me. They were told twice, yes, she can close the account but they had an attitude about us closing it. Worse experience and worse timing on their part. I have told EVERYONE THAT I HAVE came in contact with regarding this situation. So pitiful!
