This review is specifically for the HELOC loans offered at UMe. I received excellent service from their banker; highly responsive and informative. However, their appraisal process was terribly inadequate. I paid several hundred to have an appraiser from Santa Clarita appraise my home for less than what I paid for in 2021. I was completely appalled. I countered the appraisal and they increased it by 20K. Absolutely pathetic; I’m in Highland Park. It’s shameful that UMe only works with one appraiser and they’re completely unaware of the Los Angeles real estate market.

The next week I began working with another credit union that offered an even better promotion. They appraised my home at 200K+ more than UMe and their appraiser was more affordable. I was over the moon!

Unless they get a better appraiser, I would NEVER recommend UMe to anyone looking for a HELOC, especially if you had to overpay to get into the extremely competitive market of Los Angeles. This is one of the hottest markets in the country and it’s exasperating when anyone associated with a lender is beyond uninformed.

Part 2- Ume Credit Union - 8-8-2024
But if you’re new and don’t know what you’re doing, then don’t act like you do….know what you’re doing…..and don’t take it out on the loyal customer that’s been banking with you for years….because you,…don’t know what you’re doing.

Go get help immediately and ask someone. Don’t make the customer feel like they’re guilty of something…..because you don’t know what you’re doing..

And, they did something wrong…..because “You don’t know how to do your job”. Admit to yourself “damn I don’t know what I’m doing…”let me go get help right away and ask someone”

Thank God, this nice lady named Judy came out and fixed the problem right away. She was Very professional and helped us right away. She didn’t make us wait 30 minutes.

I didn’t get the guys name, but Thank God for him,..I didn’t because his name would be on this review right now.

Also, there’s so much scamming going on right now….and I Truly don’t feel comfortable if my banking information is accessible to a person that couldn’t figure out something so remedial.

It just doesn’t sit well with me, you know. It makes me feel like.. Damn, he could possibly mess up one day and leave my banking information up on the computer screen and forget to close it down or something..

These things go on in my head when I experience a bad Customer service situation “at my own bank”

Am i wrong for feeling this way I don’t know I’m only human, but one thing I do know is I don’t want my hard working “EARNED MONEY” disappear one day because someone didn’t take the time to do their job correctly and my money in the bank gets into the wrong hands.

It could happen so easily when “STANDARDS AREN’T KEPT” !

The guy working at the front desk had a “high top fade” & was wearing glasses. His hair was black with a few hairs of grey.

We've been with Ume for years, but I have done the majority of my banking with TD Bank because it's directly linked to TD Canada Trust. The main problem I have with TD Bank is that there are no branches in California, so everything I do is online. This is fine for bill payments and Venmo but when it came time to secure a loan, they couldn't help me because I live in California.

I needed a loan for my car, so I went to Ume and Robert Lopez offered me an incredible rate as well as great terms. I can't believe I was even considering TD Bank. Robert took the time to walk me through all of the options (including a HELOC) and I was so impressed, I opened a NEW checking and savings account and will be transferring my assets from TD Bank to Ume over the next few months.

If you want exemplary customer service and great rates, Ume Credit Union is the place to go. I feel like I'm more than just a username and password. I feel like the team at Ume Credit Union has my back. Case in point when I was transferring money over from TD, they called me to confirm the account and transfer and then immediately wired the money.

Ume Credit Union goes the extra mile and Robert always takes my calls-- when he's not giving other members top-notch service. And if I can't get him on the phone, he ALWAYS emails back.

It's like I have my very own personal banker!

Over the next few months when all of my assets are transferred, I will utilize many more of the services (CDs, Investments, etc) available to me. I'm grateful to be a member; this membership is worth something.

Ume is an exceptional Credit Union and I’m stating that as a person who has worked with 3 different banks and 2 other credit unions for both my personal and business accounts. What a great experience! I have been wanting to switch from my big national bank to a smaller local credit union for years. Part 1- Ume Credit Union - 8-8-2024
I Truly LOVE ❤️ BANKING with Ume Credit Union…They have been my bank for years & their customer service “has always” been GREAT, BUT……

Yesterday on 8-8-24 around 4:30 pm right before they were about to close,

the customer service representative at the front desk that’s sitting right when you walk in the bank did NOT know what he was doing at all.

We were very nice to him and told him our card was blocked but instead of explaining to us, how he (that’s A representative of Ume Credit Union) would fix the problem, he replied “the atm machine isn’t working”.

Which had nothing to do with anything we said. We said our credit card was blocked and he just kept replying “yeah but our atm machine is down” ummmm hello?👋

It’s like asking someone what color shirt are you wearing and they respond…..my shirt size is Large

My husband kept saying to him…
“I didn’t come here for that,
I came inside the bank to let the bank know, “in person” ….so I can show my face and ID…..that my bank card is blocked and I need my card to be unblocked.

He wasn’t trying to pull out any money or even get a new card, he just wanted to “unblock his credit card” We stood there for 25 minutes, waiting for this guy at the customer service representative desk at Ume Credit Union, to try and figure out how to fix a blocked card.

And then he made my husband feel like he was doing something wrong, like he was trying to steal money from someone’s account and asked him…what did you purchase for $200 on july 2nd?

Are you serious I purchase so many things on my credit cards throughout the month for my businesses that I run,

almost every other day, sometimes 2-3 times a day, and I have several banks I go to and many credit cards with different companies.

It’s like asking someone what did you wear or what did you watch on tv on July 2nd? And when he answered,….I can’t remember i purchase a lot of things. He was like,… you don’t remember? Like he was trying to insinuate that, how could you not remember if it’s your card? Wow, ummm ok, soooo..

25 minutes pass and we still haven’t gotten anywhere. We’re just standing there Waiting for him to figure out “how to do his job” & because he didn’t know, he made my husband fell like he was wrong for not remembering…..

for how much………
on what date………

And that’s not right…At all, he eventually had to call on the phone for help & still couldn’t figure it out.

Then he eventually got up to go get help because he still couldn’t figure it out.

Which is what he should of done in the 1st place, if you don’t know what your doing or how to do your job, I can understand if you’re new and you’re learning and you ask for help. That’s is ok, everyone learns and it takes time and I don’t mind waiting if someone’s new and need a little help or extra time “to go get help”! (Keep reading to Part 2👇 below)
