TIAA customer service and processing department have become horrible all the way to at least their Senior Customer Resolution Manager Stuart Hansen. I have been a TIAA customer for at least 25 years. They used to have excellent customer service. Last month, I tried to roll over some 401K money to a ROTH IRA. They did not process the request even after calling them every single day for 12 days, causing me about $4000 in tax losses. I wrote a letter to TIAA president complaining about it. Stuart Hansen responded with a boiler plate language letter. He did not have the courtesy to read my letter.

Honestly I would recommend Vanguard or Fidelity because trying to access your funds through TIAA is an absolute nightmare. Every Rep tells you something different and next thing you know it’s been a month. I am now closing that account and will never use them again.

Excellent customer service. I was unsure what to do with my online TIAA account, so I spoke by phone with Brennan at the TIAA Charlotte office. He was very professional, competent, and personable. There was also very little wait time. It was one of the best experiences I've had with any customer service phoneline.

Pray you don't have a home owners insurance claim. They have the most convoluted, frustrating, waste of time process ever. It is easier to buy a house than to get them to release the payments for my contractors. My insurance company was easy to deal with (AIG) but TIAA Bank has been a nightmare. What a bureaucratic maze.
