It's a good insurance that allowed me to waive my UCLA healthcare plan, saving me $4k a year. Although it might be somehow less convenient than UC SHIP (I recall the Ashe Center told me I had to go to the school hospital for certain services), the overall experience is very good. Whenever I encounter an issue, SM responds promptly and professionally. And the waiving process is straight forward.

Don't buy this insurance! I had a terrible experience with this insurance. Their customer service was unhelpful when I needed assistance with a claim. I also found that their coverage was inadequate and did not fully protect me when I needed it most. Despite paying high premiums, I was left with significant out-of-pocket expenses!!! They advertise to international students through student unions, but their insurance coverage and service are far from adequate.

I am a Cal student. Student medicover offers very great deals of insurance compared to SHIP which is offered by the university. Also, the customer service is pretty good. I can always get timely replies from the assistant when having some issues.

The medical insurance for international students is great. It's much lower than the insurance provided by the university. I visited an urgent care for UTI several weeks ago. I received two lab tests and one injection. All I will pay is just around 30 bucks. The bill is much better than I expected.

Overall, the health insurance is nice, cheaper than the school provides and actually comes with better coverage. I switched to Dianins Global later because of the cheaper premium and better coverage at Dianins. Now I'm coming back to Student Medicover because SM offers better cost beneficial plans for students on OPT.
