tldr: Gone are the days when credit unions had less functionality than banks. Great product offerings and customer service with top notch online and mobile functionality that allows for global use.
I swear SOCU rolls out new or advanced mobile and/or online features every year. Great rates on savings that earn with a minimum balance of $25, yes twenty-five dollars. A checking account that pays interest to you with overdraft coverage in case you accidentally need it. Loans, HELOC, CDs, Traditional and Roth IRAs, ESAs, three types of Credit Cards and more. Easy internal (same account or member to member) and external transfers including Instant Pay, wire transfers. Mobile check deposit is seamless. Visa credit or debit cards. Submit editable travel notifications for selected debit card(s) for International use and access to ATMs. ATM search while you're on travel to help you avoid paying foreign ATM fees. Co-Op network in case you need a brick and mortar in the US and you are not near a SOCU branch. Bill pay service that integrates with most service providers and easy to setup one off or recurring payments to integrated provider or a human or business. No monthly account service fee. Reasonable or market-based fees for things you expect - international or domestic wire, overdrafts, etc. eDocuments option with online statement reconciliation, tax documents and quick views or download a pdf. My current online statement history goes back to 2018. Online forms for common actions so you may not need to go to a Branch. FICO score. I joined SOCU shortly after moving to the Bay Area in 2003 and have been a member of credit unions since 1990's.

I've been a long time member and now seriously considering other options. Great rates but the stress they create is totally not worth any money saving. They have made every purchase an absolute nightmare...it would be considered INSANITY for me to ever give them another chance. The level of disrespect on my last experience was above and beyond by the mortgage department management. I have multiple loans from them and every one was a nightmare to obtain. They never respond to emails, you will need to call and complain to be transferred. I missed out on the home I wanted to purchase. The mortgage team was having a bad day and made my homebuying experience horrible. When I complained it got even worse.

This review is for Star One Credit Union in general and not location specific. My experience with Star One has been consistently bad. Their online security is lacking and they outsource many of their key functions to third parties that are just not to par. Web browsing experience is very confusing. Their staff have dropped the balls and made mistakes on several transactions. This would not have happened with any other commercial banks. I have accounts with other banks and credit unions. I don't understand why people stay with this bank. I am done with this bank!

I did an auto loan and solar loan with them. Great rates and beats everyone else. I have to give a shout out to Amanda she responded to my email immediately when in my email header I placed URGENT and she did everything in her ability to help me close the auto loan on time considering the short timeline we were in from application to closing only in 6 days. Highly recommended!

So now I am feeling old, but I have been with StarOne since 2004 when I lived in NorCal. That's 18 years! Ooof. Three years after I opened an account with my husband, we moved across the country. I have never changed banks in the 15 years we have lived on the east coast. Everything I need from my bank is on their website. I get easy-to-use bill pay, I have gotten loans, I have opened an account for my daughter, I have opened subaccounts for myself, and I get answers to my questions quickly through their website messaging system. The very few times I have to use a teller face-to-face, I have other CUs that are part of a national network that I can go to. Every time I have to talk to a StarOne employee, they have been super friendly and helpful. Not to mention their rates are usually higher than other banks, so I get a nicer return on my money I save with them. I am also happy with their app. It makes depositing checks easy and also finding ATMs. It would take another bank an offer of a ton of money to get me to switch banks and even then, would I know I would be able to do on their website what I can do already with StarOne?

No complaints on their rates and services, but Star One has the absolute WORST online banking as well as mobile deposit. I depend heavily on both, as I'm quite far from the nearest branch. Be prepared for lots of time-outs and errors. Calling their support number is absolutely no help. Just denial after denial that anything is wrong on their end.

I'm writing this review just so it's noted ahead of time.
Most every time I come in to cash a check as a non-member at the Sunnyvale or Stevens Creek branch off top a teller has an issue because of my skin hue. (a few tellers gave me no issue cashing my non member checks at the Steven's Creek branch but I haven't seen a couple of them since 😬 !!!!Yesterday the teller tried to tell me my check looked forged and that the penmanship was off.!!!!. (so now I need to video record checks being written out to me in fear of cop calling and harassment to get her kicks and time waste) I told this same hued woman of a different ethnicity that the check was written by the person that is on the head of the check.
So I see, just because payments don't agree with your bias, now you use the forge check tactic?..
Nancy was playing on the phone hanging up several times in the members face on the phone when she called to verify the check, wasting time and to instill duress in the situation. She left a message leaving a phone number that wouldn't
directly lead to her upon call back. When I called I reached the member they answered and star one has the members correct phone number.
For 2 member approved checks I was in the bank for upwards of 25 minutes. Which is fine as my time is valued by the person from whom the checks were written.
Y'all treat brown skinned people like criminals aka bwb. Even after months I still get unusual treatment by certain staff acting as if I'm doing something wrong instead of them rapidly fulfilling the request for which I came.
Star one is right, but you should put a negative Infront of that star name.

Compared to a bank, Star One is better, but compared to other credit unions, not so good. Their biggest problem is that they can't seem to leverage technology to the benefit of customers. You cannot digitally reconcile your accounts and no decent software reliably links to their site. They have an embedded finance tool, but it can't do critical functions that, say, Quicken would. There's potential here, but either the board or leadership is missing some key skills.
