Bad news. I interviewed Scott because, after bad experiences with 2 other Kernersville accountants, I needed an accountant who provided tax advice and I needed a guaranteed price after another Kernersville accountant charged me almost $4,000 for a tax return that cost ONLY $1,000 in New York City. She also forgot to include a $3,000 tax payment to NC, resulting in my having to come up with $4,000 plus $2,600 in 2 weeks.

When I called about 2 simple tax questions, the office refused to provide tax advice until 2 weeks AFTER taxes were due (because they were busy with ALL their other clients and they didn't have 30 seconds to tell me what the top NC tax rate is and whether discharged student loans were still taxable in NC). Who needs an accountant who REFUSES to provide tax advice when needed?

Also, based on forms (2 rental properties) in the previous year's return that Scott reviewed, I was quoted $450 to do the 2023 taxes. After the paperwork was provided, the price almost doubled to $750 because THERE WERE 2 RENTAL PROPERTIES. As I had nothing in writing and the price almost doubled in a few weeks and imagining a price increase to $1,500 by the time the return was completed, I decided not to use them and did not provide needed information.

When I went to pick up my paperwork, the receptionist wanted to know why they weren't doing my taxes. She didn't like my answer and told me to be quiet so she could explain their failures. She also didn't like that I moved my hand and ordered me to stop. Another woman came out and, with her arms folded, glared at me as if I came to disturb their peace and was about to call the cops. Luckily, as a psychic, I knew to record the conversation without their knowledge. I'll be filing a complaint with the NC Attorney General and the appropriate state agency for the firms masquerading as accountants who charge 200% to 500% of market rates.
