We worked with Melissa Macfayden, a Venice-based California Real Estate Broker-Associate, when purchasing a home near the beach in Venice, CA. We found her listing for a tenant-occupied, single-family residence on the broker’s website. Since we were traveling from Dallas, Texas to see the property, she skillfully coodinated a showing mutually convenient to the occupants and to our travel schedule. After our offer was accepted, Melissa was helpful during a rigorous inspection process, arranging an investigation of the plumbing system and contacting the owner of an adjacent property to discuss an issue raised during inspections. Once our due dilegence was complete, Melissa presented our findings to the Seller for consideration. Most importantly, she helped facilitate a last-minute 1031-exchange for a property we sold in Dallas. After the Closing, Melissa presented us with a wonderful gift set of wine and champagne. She maintains client contact by sending yearly Holiday greetings, ofter featuring her recent travel adventures to strange and exotic places off the beaten path. We were interested in renting a property of Melissa’s for whom she was the broker. We were told by our broker that she also represented another listing that we had been interested in and she could meet us there at 1115. After waiting 5 minutes we called our broker to say that we were there and she told us we were at the wrong address. Puzzled, we looked up the listing and saw that we were not interested in the actual listing so we apologized and canceled the apt, as that unit didn’t fit our needs. At 1125 we received a phone call from Melissa that was incredibly rude, disrespectful, and derogatory. Our broker had made a mistake and she said to us “who do we think we are for making her wait?” She hung up the phone on us. I have never dealt with such disrespect from a broker that we had an interest in renting from. Always treat people with kindness. You don’t know everyone’s story. We flew from NYC to see these listings and would never speak to anyone the way she spoke to us.

I contacted Melissa for a viewing of a property in Venice. She returned my call and was very curt in asking when and what time I would like to view the property. The call lasted only 1 minute. When I called to reconfirm an hour before the appointment, she said she had never put my appointment down. She was rude and spoke condescendingly towards me. She lectured me I was requesting to view the back unit, when I was, in fact, trying to see the front unit. I would not recommend interacting with her if you're looking to rent from her. I understand realtors are busy and have a lot on their plate, but she was so unkind I was stunned.
