I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Maison B Café in New Haven—it might be the worst service I’ve ever encountered. The coffee barista seemed really down, sitting in the corner and barely acknowledging us, which made the atmosphere feel heavy. We had to practically plead for any attention, and even when we were seated, the service remained unfriendly and unwelcoming. It was such a letdown. To make matters worse, the cappuccino I ordered was honestly awful—one of the worst I’ve ever tasted. Overall, the experience was horrible, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. You’re better off trying somewhere else!

The place was clean and bright, like a freshly laundered shirt. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting warm shadows on the polished wood tables. The aroma of coffee and baking pastries hung in the air, a sweet perfume that made the mouth water.

I ordered a waffle and watched the cook prepare it with practiced hands. The batter sizzled on the iron, filling the air with a rich, warm scent. When it arrived, golden and crisp, I hesitated. It was a thing of beauty, but I knew the toll such indulgences could take.

The first bite was a revelation of sweetness and texture. The crisp exterior gave way to a tender inside, a perfect balance. But with each forkful, I couldn't help but think of the refined flour and sugar, silent assassins coursing through the bloodstream.

I sipped my coffee, strong and black, a small comfort. Around me, patrons laughed and ate, oblivious to the subtle danger on their plates. The café was a haven of pleasure, but one that came at a price not measured in dollars alone.

As I finished, I felt the familiar guilt. The meal had been exquisite, a triumph of skill and tradition. But in a world where diabetes lurks like a predator, even such simple joys carry risk. I left with a full stomach and a heavy heart, knowing that balance, like happiness, is often elusive.

Never again! First and last time
Looking forward to a laid-back morning we unfortunately end up at this dump. Long wait, rude staff, mediocre food. A staff person (not waitress, they don’t have any) came to our table accused us of lying about a food item and said we have to pay for it, and stood there waiting to get payment.
The management/ owner response to other reviews here 🚩🚩🚩is pretty much what you get in person.

Here’s what happened:
Me and my husband order our food (waffle, omelette, tofu, scramble, oatmeal, and two lattes), the cashier says there’s an up charge for customizing/adding (I assume its the fruit and nondairy milk). We say that’s fine and find a table. Our order starts arriving but after a few minutes of waiting we ask a staff person to check if the waffle we ordered was coming. This person doesn’t come back and at this point we’re almost done eating. My husband goes up to the register to ask about the waffle. The plates have been cleared from the table and we’re slowly, sipping our lattes waiting for this waffle and still no waffle. When the waffle finally arrives, the person that brings it over says something about ordering 2, and my husband responds with “I guess”.
The cashier comes over with a receipt and starts saying we got 2 waffles but only ordered one and we need to pay for it because the person that brought it over asked us if we ordered and that we said yes. We tell her we didn’t really know what he said when he came over, but we’ll pay. Then she continues to emphasize we only ordered one and we have to pay for the other one. And then she just stands there as if we’re not allowed to continue our conversation until we pay for this waffle. So I say we’ll pay when we’re done.
When we go up to the register to pay, I tell her to let her manager know that their lack of communication and organization should not affect customers. And then she repeats “he asked you if you order two waffles and you said yes.” I reminded her we had to ask about our order multiple times. The manager/owner comes over and says did you enjoy your meal? 🥴 no, I didn’t enjoy being harassed by the staff while I’m eating being accused of lying and attempting to steal after having to wait so long for the food to arrive. Also, they ask for a tip when you pay for your order. This is why tips come at the end of the service not before you even sit down.

You can tell how rude management is by their response to any negative reviews on here.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Maison B Cafe, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the owner, Marika, whose passion for her restaurant is evident in every detail. The ambiance is cozy and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a memorable meal.

Our server, Sara, was outstanding. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations that enhanced our dining experience. Her friendly demeanor and prompt service added to the overall enjoyment of our visit.

The menu at Maison B Cafe is diverse and creative, offering something for everyone. Each dish we tried was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The ingredients were fresh and of high quality, reflecting Marika's commitment to excellence.

In particular, the Avocado Benedict was a standout. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned, making it clear why Maison B Cafe is a local favorite.

Overall, Maison B Cafe is a true gem. Marika and her team, especially Sara, go above and beyond to ensure every guest has an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I can't wait to return!

ATROCIOUS. This was extremely disappointing service.
Initially the line was very quick and they took our orders (Saturday morning at 11:00 am). Not only did they take 45 min to serve our coffee — they messed up and delivered 1 instead of 2.
All our eggs (out of 5 people) were all boiled instead of poached.
And it’s the type of place where you tip prior to receiving your food.
Extremely disappointed. B for Bad. Not B for Belgium.

Honestly probably the worst coffee I have had not only in Nee Haven, but all of the US. Please do not water down the brewed offerings, it will not gall you retain customers. I do know the cafe is busy but small things=big things eventually

The woman at the front counter,
Marika is the rudest woman I have ever met and is making them loose MANY customers.

I went to Maison B Cafe a week ago while my son was in critical care in the hospital nearby. The first time was pleasant and I enjoyed the avocado crunch roll and so I decided I’d recommend it to my sister and go back the following week to get a small break from the hospital. I ordered the same thing, the avocado crispy roll. When I received it it didn’t have avocado, tomato, or aoli, as it did last time and as is advertised on the menu. I asked if it could be fixed because it only had egg and cheese on it. The woman at the desk, Marika, proceeded to be extremely rude and yell at me saying that’s not what I ordered and I would have to pay more money to have that and so I agreed to pay $5 more, despite that being exactly what I ordered. Then she continues to proceed to yell at me, the customer, saying that’s not what I ordered and my sister was right there and also knew in fact that was what I ordered. I tried to avoid engaging in a childish back and forth with her but she proceeded to yell at me so I finally told her that my son is on life support and I know that this what I ordered because the only other time I’ve left the hospital I came here and ordered the same there as they don’t even have menus available! She just said “I don’t care”. Eventually she brought me the same sandwich I had and just threw some guacamole on it. Despite me paying an additional $5 for an up charge for this sandwich it still didn’t contain the correct ingredients.

Bottom line, in the half hour I had away from the hospital with my son, I was expecting a pleasant experience like I had the first time but it was in fact the WORST experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant!! I could care less about the sandwich. At the end of the day, Marika, the woman you order from could not be more rude to the customers and literally attacked me by yelling at me continually when I only asked to have ingredients added to my sandwich because they had made a mistake on my order. It’s clear from these reviews many people have had the same negative experience with this woman and I will NOT be back again and have told all of the staff at Yale who initially referred me to this place and they also will NOT be back again. I suggest the management work on training a little thing called customer service to this woman and staff.
