My wife and I were purchasing a home at a time when there wasn't much inventory with our desired location, features, and price point. We had a compressed timeline due to the kids' school calendars, and to top it all off, we were moving two and a half hours away into the Sacramento area. It was a complicated situation, to say the least.

Due to the long distance, our move required much of the decision-making to happen over the phone, and since both my wife and I have day jobs, getting to Sacramento to see houses in person wasn't always easy. Janay streamlined this process for us, and she was our eyes and ears when we couldn't be there. If we expressed interest in a house, she'd visit it the same day or early the next day. If we wanted more information on whether we could "turn that living space into a bedroom", say, she'd immediately inquire. Often, if there was a sense of urgency to view a house, she'd call us on Facetime and give us a virtual tour. When we couldn't be on the phone at the time, she gave us extensive recorded video walkthroughs. We really felt like she was working for us and giving us the best chance at finding a house we really loved.

Often, choosing a house isn't a clear decision. Before house hunting, you think about what you want and imagine a house with features that might work for you. Then you compare your imagination to what's available. When nothing works, you habitually check Zillow and Redfin on your phone after you wake up in the morning -- of course, before your feet hit the floor -- looking for a house that you might be able to mold into the one you had imagined. With Janay, even though we were two and a half hours away, I felt like she was right there with us in this process. She was always up-to-date about which houses were available, often knowing about them before we did. She always knew intimate details about those houses, beyond what Zillow and Redfin offered. And over time, she grew to know exactly what we were looking for, developing a keen sense of what my wife and I wanted -- both separately and together. Her goal, which was clear throughout, was to find us a house that worked for both of us.

Which is how we ended up buying a house that I'm happy to call my dream house. This review is long enough, so I'll spare you some of the details. But the gist is this: Janay went above and beyond not only finding us a house that ticked every box, but also helping us to work through a number of complicated situations as our house-buying process unfolded. We were able to buy our house solely because of Janay's local connections, which gave us the drop on our dream home before it had even gone on the market. As with all house purchases, there were some hurdles to jump through, but Janay clearly had our best interests in mind. She has an outstanding grasp of the house-buying process and the paperwork involved, and at every point I knew the next step that would get us to closing.
