Mark was amazing to work with. He’s diligent to understand your needs, he’s detail oriented, and takes his job seriously. He’s invested in your journey to find the right home and does not rush you. After we bought our house, we had some remodeling work to do which was unnerving as first-time homeowners. Although Mark didn’t have to, he made himself available to guide us and helped us through the process. Mark’s well connected in the Bay Area and has a strong network of people that he leverages to support you.

I very rarely write reviews but as a client of Mark Barber's, I thought his service and support were so exemplary that I needed to get the word out on his family real estate business.

My partner and I spent about a year and half looking for a home before we finally made the purchase. As first time buyers, we changed our minds several times on what we were looking for (condo vs single family home, the neighborhood, financing options). Mark was extremely patient and honest the entire time and never once pressured us to buy a place. In fact, there were a few times that he *discouraged* us from buying a place we were interested in because he foresaw issues with the property.

Mark is well connected in the Bay Area, ranging from contractors to mortgage lenders to other real estate agents. I found this helpful due to the high amount of negotiations involved across multiple parties during the home buying process. He's even a real estate agent for real estate agents! Once when I visited an open house on my own, I ran into a real estate agent that bought her house where Mark was the seller's real estate agent. Post purchase, he put us in contact with a few contractors to help us evaluate what work was needed.

Mark is also well informed of the foundations of a good home and neighborhood. He goes above and beyond to ensure that his clients do not bear the brunt of asymmetrical information. I found this extremely helpful because of the amount of information that's *not* revealed in home disclosures. Several times, we looked at glossy, remodeled homes only for Mark to point out foundational structure issues (e.g., made of brick, several horizontal cracks, soil liquefaction) and poor construction (e.g. kitchen steps were not built to code). He saved us headaches and expenses by avoiding homes that would look great to the eager buyer but not so great to a licensed contractor. In other instances, he went down to city hall to find zoning permits and city hall memos in order to figure out upcoming activities in the zip code (because nobody wants to buy a place only to have major construction next door).

In short, I highly recommend Mark Barber for any buyer (new or experienced) interested in buying property.

Mark helped me when I was buying my home. Even recommending a cheaper house (worst commission) but that would be a better deal because he discovered the more expensive house would have a building near it and I would lose all my privacy (and value). I was very impressed with his honesty.
