I’ve always felt that it is better to pay someone to prepare your taxes than to try to deal with stress yourself. However, this year we decided to use turbo tax because we had to turn in a financial aid application with completed taxes by Feb 3 to my child’s school. This gave us an almost impossible window between receiving all of our tax forms in the mail and filing our taxes. I didn’t think it was realistic nor kind to give Ruby the few forms we already received and then expect her to finish the return within a short window of receiving the remainder forms. We’re both smart professionals and we’re not completely inept when it comes to taxes, we can figure it out with their “step by step guidance”. Well, it turns out that turbo tax is very glitchy— it skipped an entire section of deductions which we didn’t realize until we saw our DMV vehicle license fee paperwork and donation paperwork untouched. Then the program entered in one of my 1099s twice which increased the amount I owe by $500 (Ruby found this error). Then when I couldn’t figure out how to answer one of the questions regarding type of long term capital gain, I called the turbo tax “free support” number and waited on hold forever before giving up. We had already spent a couple of hours answering questions and we tired, frustrated, and were unsure of how to answer this very important question. I called Ruby who I’ve been going to for a handful of years and she completed my return within a couple of days. Turbo tax said I owed almost $4k more than what Ruby calculated and she also found the double entry of the 1099-DIV. I haven’t used turbo tax since my early twenties, when my financial situation was simple, and this year was a reminder that I will not bother with turbo tax again.

Ruby is fantastic! I had an incredibly complicated return with way too many state returns, and so many layers of complexity but it didn’t scare Ruby away! Reaching out to her I didn’t know if she would be able to help me. Not only did she send me an email same day, she reached out to me via phone to tell me she would be more than happy to help me and we walked through what everything would entail. It was a breath of fresh air to communicate with a human being, not some automated reply from a company that doesn’t care about you. I explained my tax experiences in the past, which had not been good at all. It seemed like every year I owed and no one could explain why. She talked to me about possibly why I owed and told me that she would get started on everything and as soon as she figured things out, she would update me and we would build a plan. She kept in constant contact and in less than 5 days, she had completed my taxes, got me a refund, and it cost less than H&R Block (which was the worst). She walked through what could have potentially happened in the past and why. She is absolutely phenomenal! She genuinely cares about her work and the people she helps and it shows in the service she provides!! I am not dreading my taxes next year because of how incredible Ruby is! Thank you Ruby!!!

Ruby has been doing mine and my parents tax return for last few years. I usually am a very busy person so she works with me remotely. I send her documents through email or google drive and she prepares my return and sends me the paperwork that needs to be signed. This saves me a lot of time. She is also very friendly, easy to work with, and her prices are very reasonable for how well her work is.
