I'm writing this review on behalf of my niece she will be so upset if she finds out I wrote this but I cannot help but be so disappointed in This property management company the lack of empathy they have shown, long story short I showed up to my nieces home because she has been dealing with personal issues I wont get into detail, I came into Salinas from out of town to show her support I brought my Companion (dog) because I know she loves animals and before her move to Salinas she had just lost her pet "honey" with that said apparently because my Dog was on her property without permission from the realtor they fined her $500 she's a single mother doing her best and called me crying, instead of informing her that this cant happen again they just up and fined her $500, now she is back to being stressed, depressed, and full of anxiety just when she was getting herself together again she is back to this dark mental space. I feel at fault because I just wanted to help her where is the relationship they supposedly hold with their tenants? and I know she is a good tenant and doesn't bother anyone because she rented from me many years before she moved to Salinas, I am just appalled.

We have had nothing but positive experience with Backus Properties. It is great to live in a rental that is well cared for and the property manager ( Molly) always responds right away and takes care of any issues. Yes you do need to go through a bit to get the rental and they do make sure you are caring for the property, but that is why the rental house is so much better than others who only care about the money. If I ever need a property manager Molly will be it! I highly recommend them

Backus properties are phenomenal. I moved into an apartment on an annual lease. It was a great, and honest management company. All of the staff members are very resourceful and understanding. Cindy, Michelle and Celeste all are wonderful. I had the best experience from my housing because of them giving me the opportunity to be there tenant. If your looking for a great property management on the peninsula, I'd recommend this one for everyone!! Thank you Backus Properties.

Such a great experience with this company. We arrived on military orders during COVID and Molly specifically handled our entire case so professionally and thoughtfully. We have had some pretty sketchy landlords in the past, so this was an absolute game-changer! Maintenance was done super fast, the rent was very comparable for the area, the apartment was well-kept…I could go on for days! We also had 2 cats and never felt like the company overcharged us for them. A great experience overall! Thanks again, Molly!

Cindy Vargas with Backus Property Management has been managing various rentals for me in Salinas
Over the last 8 years.
Both in her previous position at another company and the last few years with Backus, Cindy has done a real good job with Tenant relations, Inspections and Maintenance of the properties.

I see all the negitive comments about move-out's and not getting your deposit back, that makes me nervous; however, I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my personal experience. They have been nothing but friendly, respectful and timely with me.
If I was ever in need to move again I would absolutly make Backus my first stop.
I would also recommend them if anyone asked for a reference.
I enjoy my complex, my owners are fantastic and Backus PM has been nothing but a professional pleasent experience.

If there was a no star I wouldn't give them any stars. They try to rob you. In their contract it says not to paint or try to fix walls. But if they think it needs cleaning or fixing they'll just paint over it cause it more cost efficient. I rented a 3 bedroom front them for over 3 years I cleaned my walls every week I was very clear to my 2 kids to not touch walls or drag feet. After paying 1500 monthly on time every time they're trying to say the place needs cleaning and fixing they're trying to keep my 1600 dllr deposit..it doesn't take 1600 to paint the place. They should of just let me paint the place myself. When I moved in it was in decent condition. I left that place better and cleaner than what they rented to me..
