I used this company once in 2022 to file my taxes when I had some property losses to address. For 2023, they sent me a tax organizer that I did not respond to. After that, I never received any follow-up—no calls, no additional emails. I ended up filing my 2023 taxes with a different agency.

Fast forward to October 29, 2024, and I received an invoice from this company for filing a tax return extension for 2023—a service I never authorized. Thinking this was clearly a mistake, I ignored it, as I never contracted them to file anything for me in 2023. Then, on December 5, 2024, I received an email stating that if I didn’t pay the $50 invoice by Monday, they would send it to collections.

I wrote back and explained that I never authorized the service, but they responded by saying they were trying to protect me. Shouldn’t a company notify you before submitting something to the IRS on your behalf or at least get your authorization? They did not, yet they are still trying to charge me for something I never authorized.

They claimed they had reached out multiple times, but that was a lie. I even sent them a screenshot to prove it. Sending someone to collections for $50 over a mistake they made is outrageous. While I could easily pay this $50, I refuse to pay for a service I never authorized.

They argued that I am responsible because I used them the prior year and said professional courtesy would have been telling them I didn’t need their services. However, professional courtesy also includes notifying a customer before submitting something on their behalf and expecting payment.
