My oh my. I’ve never written a poor review, and am saddened to.

Geoffrey has been my agent, and he is pleasant, just difficult to reach. Communication was poor, but this I ascribed to life circumstances. I understand this, however, when connecting to another agent in office, Cory I believe, I had a low quality of experience. In fact, this is the lowest quality of experience I’ve had with someone assisting with health insurance.

In a calm manner, I explained to Cory that I was frustrated with not being able to get in touch with Geoffrey. I also reminded him of the strenuous circumstances I have, and am, enduring in my own life so I understand that communication can be disrupted, however, I would need some sort of follow-up, a rescheduling or reaching back out from Hummingbird insurance perhaps. From that point on, Cory was very escalated in tone (yelling), rude, and belittling. The issue we had in regard to the health insurance was resolved, but the way that he arrived there was unacceptable. I’ve had some time to settle down and think about this interaction, and the way that it occurred was just not okay. I have also worked in Human Resources for four years before, and no matter how often someone was escalating on the phone, never have I, as the professional, been demeaning or have escalated to the way Cory had.

Key things on the phone that contributed to this level of unacceptable:

- Cory (in escalation) stated, I quote: “first of all, we don’t have to berate Geoffrey!” No berating was happening. I had stated I was frustrated with not being able to get into contact with Geoffrey, and shared my own personal hardships with the understanding that communication may be buffered but a solution was needed. Verbally, I pointed out again to Cory that no berating was happening, but I would need some sort of rescheduling to proceed.

- I quote, from him: “lady, this is a free service, so you can just go to the health marketplace if you want!” Again, the tone in which he was speaking was demeaning and escalated.

- After explaining I have been seeking solutions with health insurance customer service and the pharmacy, I kept being interrupted in escalated tones. I felt like I couldn’t explain that I was, indeed, taking the necessary steps to get the answers I was seeking.

- Hung up in the middle of me speaking at the end.

Some of us have income restrictions, but no one, despite income, should ever be talked to the way I was talked to. I am disappointed in that interaction. It changed my view of Hummingbird Insurance.

Hummingbird is a company that's really accessible and easy to work with. Maria was awesome - my legal name on all my documentation is different from my preferred name, but she used my preferred name during all our interactions. She worked with me to find a good plan to meet all my needs with my anticipated medical care for the new year. Highly recommend 🙂
