Narron Merritt CPA has a wonderful staff and gets the job done. This is a smaller firm however these folks will work for you to achieve satisfaction. Les has been a staple in the area forever and Robin has stepped in to help Les enjoy some down time (which he deserves). Like others have said, when it was Merritt running the business it was always a pleasure...or as pleasurable as getting your taxes can be is. The last two years have been the worst experiences. Having our 2021 taxes completed was slow, but it was post Narron so my wife and I gave some wiffle room, but it still took 2-months to complete our taxes, you would think that 2-months would ensure perfect tax returns, alas, we were audited. Most big companies offer insurance or some sort of assurance that if audited there is no charge address the audit. Well, $600 to Narron and $2000 to Uncle Sam our audit was resolved.

Fast forward to this years tax season. Again, I don't feel like I have the most complex taxes, normal W2 and an income property. Submitted our taxes in April (late I know), but we get told that once assigned to a preparer we would be informed via phone/text/e-mail/carrier pigeon. About a month in, we get a letter from Narron, expecting it to be an odd way to say our taxes are being prepared...nope, it was a supposed past due bill of $180. We call and they say they'll look into it and let us know why we get the bill. Fast forward another month, we get a second notice for the past due bill. We call again and they say it fell through the cracks and they'll look into it, but the plus side is our taxes were a mere days from being prepared/filed (this has been 8-weeks/June mind you). Fast forward another month, the third notice for the $180 bill. At this point I am so fed up with no responses that I just pay the bill hoping our taxes get filed. Fast forward to August...AUGUST, nearly 16-weeks after delivering all our paperwork we get a call asking if we have a receipt for something we were claiming. We provide the receipt within 5-minutes of the e-mail and silence for another 2-weeks.

All in all, it took nearly 4-months, dead silence, and a random $180 bill to file personal income tax. Needless to say, we will be finding someone else to do our taxes. The plus side, I am sure we'll get some random bill for some random service and then get audited just to top it all off!

Narron Merritt did a fabulous job for our family taxes this year. We had a unique tax year and they helped us navigate the process seamlessly and followed up with the IRA and NCDOR when we had questions. We use again next year!

When it was Les Merritt CPA, this company was great. Merritt retired and now Narron is at the helm. I do NOT recommend this business at all for anything tax or payroll related. They charged for me for work they didn't do. And what I did pay for, I ended up finding out from NCDOR, Narron never completed the work. Horrible knowledge of their field and horrible customer service.

This business is awful. Les was always a great guy but when he sold out to Narron the business went really downhill so fast. This is the most unprofessional CPA firm I have ever done business with in 20 years. Thankfully I got out as soon as I realized.
