I used a Worthington Insurance agent to get my first car insurance plan in Los Angeles last year, which was 188/mo at Mercury, and comparable to plans offered elsewhere in the city. Mercury then raised my rate to 270/mo when my plan renewed. When my plan renewed again, it remained at 270 and finally I brought it up with my Worthington agent. She explained the rate hike was because of a point on my license for rolling a stop sign last summer. I was skeptical that could raise my rate by that much, and I decided to call other insurance companies myself. In under ten minutes, I found a plan that would cost me 188/mo, including the point on my insurance. I told my agent I wanted to terminate my insurance plan and sign onto the new one. If I did not have an agent, this would have taken 20 minutes at most. Instead this process took about 4 hours as I waited for my agent to ask Mercury questions I could have asked myself, and several times I had to call Mercury to ask if they'd given my agent the info, and they'd said they had a while ago. Then my agent would email or call me claiming she was just about to send me everything. To top it all off, on my final call with the agent to figure out what the cancellation fee and return would be, (she had given me a cancellation form to sign without bothering to check any of this), she loudly coughed and muttered "You're stupid" right before hanging up. Like out of a sitcom! They never saved me money, never bothered to check why my premium was hiked, and dragged their feet the one time I needed their help. That last burst of unprofessionalism was all I needed to know I'll never use their services again.
