Several years ago, my wife and I tried to sell our previous home ourselves, choosing to bypass using a realtor. However, Mike, being the friend that he is, noticed the "For Sale By Owner" sign in the yard, and contacted us to offer his services at a discount. He is a friend, and he wanted to help my wife and I have the best experience possible as we were selling our home, in preparation for getting into a newly-constructed home. At first, he consulted with us, just to give us some pointers, like what repairs needed to be done to pass an inspection and how to stage the home to attract more buyers. After spending an hour with him though, we decided to hire him as our realtor -- it's better to use a professional than try to go it alone, just to save a few thousand dollars.
